Hot Tub Use Offers Similar Benefits to Exercise, Research Shows

A recent study shows continued hot tub use (passive heating) can offer some of the same physical health benefits as exercise.
The study looked at the impact of 'passive heating' (continued hot tub use) on cardiorespiratory fitness, vascular health, and cardiometabolic health in comparison to low-moderate exercises like cycling.
The journal concludes:
"There is considerable overlap between the protective effect of passive heating and exercise, with beneficial adaptations reported in cardiorespiratory fitness, vascular function, and metabolism."
Passive heat therapy for those who display poor exercise adherence is an increasingly common intervention across the globe. Much research has gone into the health benefits of hydrotherapy, and it is widely accepted that hot water immersion can have positive impacts on a person's physical and mental health, such as reduced joint pain and anxiety relief. However, this new research also suggests that repeated hot tub use can even improve your general fitness in a that's comparable to low-moderate physical activity.
It is worth noting that research into passive heating as a substitute for exercise is still in its infancy, so it is always recommended to take part in some form of physical exercise if you are able to.
If you want to take it one step further, you could even try exercising IN your hot tub. Hot tub exercise is a low-impact alternative to traditional exercise that offers many of the same benefits.
