TPT-8: more automatic test generation methods and a new platform to assess measurement data

Piketec has launched the eighth version of the testing tool „Time Partition Testing“ (TPT) this week. TPT-8 comes with a new platform that enables the user to assess comfortably external measurement data. Furthermore, a tool called TASMO (acronym for Testing via Automated Search for Models) is implemented that can generate test data automatically from MATLAB/Simulink and TargetLink models. The Dashboard has been expanded: it offers more configuration options, more widgets, and can now record user interactions and transform these recordings into test step lists. Another new feature is the automatic test case generation from equivalence classes.

A new test platform named „Assessment Platform“ enables the user to import measurement data and evaluate them. „This leads to new amazing possibilities to comfortably assess measurement data with TPT“, says Dr. Jens Lüdemann, one of the managers of Piketec.

Furthermore, a new tool named TASMO is presented. TASMO stands for „Testing via Automated Search for Models“. It generates test data on the basis of an automatically run analysis of a MATLAB/Simulink or TargetLink model. These test data can get helpful in finding inconsistencies of the model at an early development stage. The generated test data can also be used in so-called Back-to-Back-Tests, to control if the compiled code complies with the model.

The Dashboard provides another way of automatically generate test data. You can record the interactions of a user with the Dashboard and transform these recordings in test step lists. Above this, there are more configuration options available, for example you can now use a click area editor to set up an image map comfortably. The number of widgets has also been enlarged. In addition, the selection widget detects automatically enumerations, and the gauge widget, digital display widget and the slider widget can handle discretization of intervals and quantization.

It is now possible to generate test data from equivalence classes automatically. This means, values within a specified range are generated randomly and are inserted as test step lists. If equivalence classes are used in a large number, this test data generation method can save you a lot of time.
