Momentive Performance Materials Introduces New Fluoro Silicone Rubber for Automotive Applications

Momentive Performance Materials, introduced three new grades of fluorosilicone rubber, FQE205E, 206E and 207E. They are available in hardness 50, 60 and 70 Shore A, improving the compression set to 3-5% in comparison to the 20% of similar products.

The three new FQE grades are designed to meet long-term reliability for automotive components performance under a harsh environment with high heat and chemical contact. These materials are ideal candidates for gaskets or O-rings in automotive engine- systems, quick connectors or diaphragms / membranes, where the components are exposed to high heat, oil or fuel.

Researchers and engineers of Momentive Performance Materials studied closely the market’s requirements and developed FQE205U, 206U and 207U, targeting a better chemical resistance and excellent compression set over state-of–the–art fluorosilicone elastomers.

Flourosilicone elastomers with higher heat and chemical resistance contribute to the increasing performance of the automotive systems. Their little change of physical properties over a wide temperature range - combined with their excellent low- temperature flexibility and broad chemical resistance - make fluorosilicones the ideal automotive sealing material in many dynamic applications in presence of fuel and oils.”

These new products are available as ready-use-compound through Momentive Performance Materials own Custom Compounding Centre in UK. The compound will be individually optimized (color / additives) based on the final performance needs of application and customer.
