German Design Award 2015German Design Council Awards a Special Mention to the LR 1000 Laboratory Reactor and Nominates the Tube Mill
Staufen, Germany, February 23, 2015 —
For the second time, a device produced by IKA® Werke has received the "Special mention for exceptional design quality" award from the German Design Council.
The company was presented with the award in the "Excellent Product Design — Industry" category as part of the German Design Award 2015 event.
The Tube Mill control by IKA® was also nominated for the prize, which is awarded by a panel of judges and is not open to application.
In accordance with the rules for issuing the award, the panel of judges assessed not only the appearance of the device, but also a range of other features, such as its ergonomics, functionality and usability.
Other factors such as the device's practicality, overall concept, design quality and degree of innovation were also taken into account, while features such as durability, brand value and branding, marketability, impact on the environment, environmental quality and product aesthetics
also influenced the decision. Safety, technical quality, technical function,
manufacturing technology and manufacturing quality were among the other important factors.
The LR 1000 laboratory reactor is ideal for optimizing chemical reactions in
laboratory-scale production. Using the LR 1000 system, operators can perform stirring and heating operations, as well as controlling the temperature of the medium via the temperature sensor supplied.
The easy-to-read TFT Display provides a wealth of information, including parameters such as speed, temperature, torque and function, and also informs users about the Connection of a pH electrode and calibration functions.
The parameters themselves are controlled via the modern menu navigation, thereby enabling the rheological changes that occur in the product during the experiment to be recorded online.
The reactor is used in the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, chemical and
food industries, as well as a number of other sectors.
The Tube Mill control is the world's first batch mill to feature disposable grinding chambers — a design that enables series tests to be carried out under reproducible conditions for the very first time.
The disposable grinding chambers reduce the amount of cleaning work required and save time and energy.
What's more, the chambers prevent the sample material from being cross-contaminated — a feature that offers a critical advantage when it comes to assuring quality.
