Ultra Perform: Coating for Water Pipelines according to ANSI/AWWA C210-07

Further development and improvement of our protective coating systems have a high priority at our company. Therefore, we constantly provide our customers advanced and high-performance coating products. The physical properties are examined by independent institutes. Our coating system ULTRA-PERFORM STP-EP2 was recently tested according to ANSI/AWWA C210-07.

ULTRA-PERFORM STP-EP2 fulfills all criteria of this standard (Liquid Epoxy Coating Systems for the Interior and Exterior of Steel Water Pipelines). Our results are excellent; the product requirements regarding surface structure, adhesion and cathodic disbonding after the immersion phases are clearly exceeded.

Advantages and physical properties of ULTRA-PERFORM STP-EP2:
• high resistance against chemicals and sea water
• excellent abrasion resistance
• high temperature stability (up to 120°C)
• solvent-free
• surface tolerant
• fast curing times
• 1-layer-system

Test procedure:
• All sample plates were coated with ULTRA-PERFORM STP-EP2 in an average layer thickness of 500 µm.

• The adhesion was tested referring to ASTM D4145. Previously, the coating on the sample plates was scratched around the dolly.
- The medial test result was 19,7 MPa.

• The coating on other sample plates was scratched around the dolly. For 30 days these plates were half immersed in different liquids (23°C):
- demineralized water
- 1% sulfuric acid solution
- 1% sodium hydroxide solution

• The immersed plates were inspected concerning to surface structure, adhesion and corrosion creep.
- On all samples and all liquids no blistering and no peeling was detected. The coating surface was fully intact, no corrosion creep occurred at the scores.
- The adhesion tests (according to ASTM D4145) were conducted on all plates in 2 areas, the liquid zone and the vapor zone. The findings were between 14,0 MPa and 11,2 MPa, far above the demands of AWWA C210-07.

• The cathodic disbondment test was passed pursuant to ASTM G8. The plates were stored in the electrolyte for 30 days at ambient temperature and a voltage of 1,41.
- The disbondment radius have to be ≤ 9,53 mm to achieve the standard. Our test plates showed an average disbondment radius from 5,0 up to 7,2 mm.
