Momentive and Engel Austria are to present highest precision in liquid silicone applications

For more than 40 years, ENGEL has been offering a complete product range of machines that are specially aligned to the processing of crosslinking elastomer materials. This range of machinery includes the ENGEL victory and ENGEL e-motion small and medium sized series with tiebarless clamping unit. The combination of these field-proven, modular conceptualized technology platforms with specific ENGEL LIM plasticizing aggregates and dosing and conveying technology for liquid silicone has resulted in the holistic ENGEL LIM machine series. Among other products, ENGEL will be displaying the ENGEL e-motion 310/100 LIM for the production of a diving mask at the K 2007 in Düsseldorf (Germany), together with the materials manufacturer Momentive Performance Materials.

The general system basis for the ENGEL LIM range of machines is the innovative tiebarless clamping unit which offers ergonomic advantages aligned with the corresponding application, but which is, however, also flexible in combination with the specific injection unit. The ENGEL LIM machine series stands out through its practical and economic combination of field-proven ENGEL technology and specially developed components for LSR processing.

An insight into LSR processing

In the setting of the K 2007 event and on the exhibition stand of Momentive Performance Materials, a world leading manufacturer of liquid silicone rubber (LSR), ENGEL will be presenting an ENGEL e-motion 310/100 LIM – fully electric. In a single cavity mold, this machine produces a diving mask with a mold from Italian firm Tomayer s.r.l., Galliate, out of liquid silicone, using Momentive Performance Materials´ LSR. A Kuka KR5 robot then removes the finished masks. The manufacturing cycle occurs completely automatically, and is without post processing and almost any waste materials. Through the completely electronic configuration, the machine stands out with its utmost levels of precision at a minimum level of energy consumption. In addition to this, the independent drives guarantee maximum levels of movement freedom and an energy optimized LSR manufacture.

It all depends on the right combination

The ENGEL LIM range of machines is aligned towards the wide range of different application possibilities in the processing of liquid rubber. It consists of both machines for the manufacture of micro components as well as for large volume items such as insulators, and also takes the large spectrum of commercially available LSR types, including highly reactive and highly filled LSR materials, into account. In this special case the acclaimed LSR 2660 by Momentive comes into use, which stands out as a result of its straightforward and safe workability, rapid vulcanization and sound transparence paid with excellent physical attributes.
