ibaDatawyzer-ICC excludes confusions

Flat products in metal processing industry are produced in several steps. The individual process steps are usually not interconnected directly, but are separated by transportation routes and interim storage facilities. When the coils are supplied to the next process step, they might be mixed up. For identifying the coils, iba AG has developed in cooperation with the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz mathematical algorithms and processes that are based on geometrical parameters like thickness and length. The research was sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi). Based on the results of this research project the ibaDatawyzer-ICC software can detect mix-ups and alarm the operator.

For identifying the coils clearly, they are marked or laminated with a coil number. There might occur errors, e.g. by an incorrect data input by the marking machine or a wrong timing in the production process. Also in the coil-yard, it might occur that a coil is stored at a wrong position. As a result, the coil might be processed in a next process step incorrectly under a wrong identity.

Instead of the external markings, ibaDatawyzer-ICC uses the geometrical properties of a coil (e.g. thickness or width) for identifying it - similar to the human fingerprint. ibaDatawyzer-ICC uses the measurement data that have been recorded by means of the process data recording system ibaPDA, analyzes these values automatically and extracts the required information.

Each thickness or width longitudinal profile has its own characteristic features. This was shown by the analysis of several thousand coils from different rolling mills.

However, the measurement data are recorded by different measurement devices from various manufacturers (e.g. radiometric thickness measuring systems with x-ray or isotope rays or optical thickness measuring devices) that can have different time constants, sampling rates and length resolutions. As a result, the measurement values have to be prepared and pre-processed adequately before the characteristic features can be extracted. By means of these characteristic features, the users can verify if two measured longitudinal profiles originate from the same coil. For this purpose, features (matches) that are sufficiently matching are determined for both profiles and the longitudinal positions are compared. Hence, coils that have been produced incorrectly can be blocked and the coil that has not been produced, yet, can be marked correctly and supplied correctly to production.

ibaDatawyzer-ICC works fully automatic, but offers an interactive user interface, where the current results are visualized and the applications can be configured. Interactive queries can be made for analyzing the production.

iba AG based in Fuerth (Northern Bavaria), is considered globally to be a leading specialist for high-quality, PC-based systems for data acquisition and analysis, signal processing and automation. Iba products are used in steel and metal industries, pulp and paper industries, in the field of transportation systems, for test benches as well as for power supply and wind turbines. The main feature of iba products is their distinct connectivity to other systems and bus technologies. An iba data acquisition system can be connected to almost every common automation system.

ibaPDA-V6 now available with interface for Bachmann-M1-controller
iba AG has added to the connectivity of ibaPDA-V6 - its PC-based system for central acquisition of process data - a request interface for M1 control systems by Bachmann. Using this interface, users can configure conveniently the measurement of data from the control during operation. By means of the request technology, the user gets important information for troubleshooting in course of the running production process. The ibaPDA-V6 process data acquisition system
ibaLink-VME connects iba components to common controllers
For users of VMEbus based controllers, iba AG based in Fuerth (Northern Bavaria) has innovated the proven ibaLink module fundamentally. Due to the now higher performance of the module, it is possible to read the control data of established suppliers of automation technology at cycle speeds of up to 25 µs in real time and further process these data. Compared to the successful predecessor ibaLink-SM-128V-i-2o, the number of signals which
ibaLink-io-embedded establishes compatibility to iba measurement components
For manufacturers of automation systems, ibaLink-io-embedded offers a high-performing possibility to connect to the “iba world”. By means of a parallel asynchronous data bus that can be operated optionally in 8 bit or 16 bit mode, the module is directly integrated into the controller. Due to its compact design, the module only needs little space. Via the 32 Mbit/s fiber optics connection, the controller is able to communicate with the
