Grown in Haiti: Cultivating Resilience and Sustainability

As the world confronts escalating environmental challenges, Grown in Haiti (GiH) stands as a beacon of sustainability, resilience, and progress. Founded in 2014 by Sidney-Max Etienne, GiH is committed to fostering environmental stewardship and self-reliance within communities throughout Haiti.

As Sidney-Max expresses, "Ayisyen Pou Ayiti (Haitians For Haiti)! We're dedicated to creating a greener, more fertile environment, and helping our people gain the knowledge and resources they need to sustain it."

GiH's impact is evident in the numbers, with over 10,000 trees planted and more than 300 individuals trained in sustainable agricultural practices. But the real success lies in the profound changes witnessed within the communities.

"Seeing neighbors transition from standard agricultural practices to regenerative techniques is truly inspiring," says Sidney-Max. "These methods offer our communities greater flexibility and resilience in the face of climate change and other adversities."

One of GiH's current projects is the imminent publication and free distribution of "Agrikilti Rejeneratif pou Ayiti," a guidebook to regenerative agroforestry techniques tailored specifically for the Haitian landscape. Additionally, GiH is in the process of raising $45,000 USD for the construction of a steel-framed community learning center in Cap Rouge, Haiti. Designed to withstand the forces of nature, the center will also serve as an emergency shelter during natural disasters, further contributing to community resilience.

GiH's work isn't just confined to Haiti. Their efforts have inspired individuals worldwide, from Chicago to South Korea, to take up regenerative agricultural practices. Looking to the future, Sidney-Max shares his vision for GiH: "Our goal is autonomy. We hope to see more Haitian-led community initiatives fostering regenerative growth throughout Haiti.
