Electrical safety mats as per IS: 15652 are Synthetic fire retardant mats that are used to provide insulation and safety in electrical current leakage-prone work areas. They are designed to safeguard workers from electrical shocks by insulating them from current while working with live electric-carrying machinery.
According to the IS: 15652:2006 standard, the electrical safety mats are classified into three categories: A, B, and C. Each category has a different thickness and working voltage. The thickness of the mats is 2 mm, 2.5mm & 3 mm. The working voltage capacity of the mats are 3.3 kV, 11KV & 33 kV respectively. The standard also specifies that the dielectric strength of the mats is up to 65KV depending on the class of mats used.
