Furry 5K Registration Now Open, Benefits Seattle Animal Shelter
Register now for the June 11th 2023 Furry 5K Fun Run & Walk for the Seattle Animal Shelter and medical care for pets in need.
Seattle- May 8, 2023- The countdown for the 24th annual 2023 Furry 5K Fun Run & Walk has begun! The popular event is back on Sunday, June 11th at Seward Park, Seattle. Runners and walkers of all ages along with hundreds of Seattle's dogs will line up at the Furry 5K start line at 11:30 AM. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell will kick off the festivities at the start line and cheer everyone on across the finish line.
"The Seattle Animal Shelter staff and the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation's dedicated team of volunteers have provided an essential service to our city for over 50 years now, supporting our residents and their beloved furry friends," said Mayor Bruce Harrell. "Funds that walkers and runners raise through the Furry 5K will allow the Seattle Animal Shelter to continue to provide critical care for pets including adoption services, low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, and a pet food bank. We are always looking to uplift the shelter's work, and the Furry 5K is a great way to show our community support for their mission."
The Furry 5K is a chance to get outside, gather with our friends and furry family members, and support animals in need. The event is hosted by the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF). 100% of funds raised by the Furry 5K go to the Help the Animals Fund at the Seattle Animal Shelter. In 2022, the Seattle Animal Shelter provided 747 spay and neuter surgeries, 2,200 vet exams, investigated 807 animal cruelty cases, and served 628 animals via their pet food bank.
On Sunday, June 11th, same-day registration and packet pick up starts at 10am. Take your photo in the photo booth, then head over to the start line. The Furry 5K Fun Run & Walk will begin with a staggered start: Runners line up and the gun will fire at 11:30am. Walkers start 10 minutes later at 11:40am.
After you cross the finish line, treat your pup to a dip in the kiddie pool - another fantastic photo op! Be sure to tag #furry5kseattle and #furry5k if you share your photos on social. Next, wind your way through the Pet-A-Palooza where you'll find vendor booths full of pet products including from Mud Bay, the Furry 5K presenting sponsor, dogs racing an agility course, and the stage for the race awards ceremony and pet costume contest.
