The Terra Awards by Diario de Avisos Foundation reinforce the awareness of UNESCO World Heritage

The city of La Laguna was once again the setting last night for the award ceremony of the second edition of the TERRA Awards of the Diario de Avisos Foundation, with the collaboration of UNESCO. The gala took place in the Teatro Leal in La Laguna and was attended by a large audience and authorities, with the music of the virtuoso piano duo Morimoto Sisters, in the incomparable setting of this city, declared a World Heritage Site since 1999, the only one in the Canary Islands to hold the title.

The Diario de Avisos Foundation organised these international awards for the first time in 2022 to recognise and highlight the most exceptional work for the improvement and conservation of the World Heritage Sites that make up the world list declared by UNESCO, and which, due to their innovative nature and exemplary work, have contributed added value to the enrichment and protection of natural and cultural assets.

In its second edition, the jury of the TERRA Awards decided to award the following distinctions: to the Iguazú National Park (Misiones, Argentina), the City of La Laguna Conservation Award; to the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and Generalife (Granada, Spain), an award in the category of Tourism Initiative; to Yosemite National Park (California, USA), an award for the Emerging Challenges Initiative; to the Silbo Gomero (La Gomera, Spain), Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Award; and to the Historic Centre of Florence (Italy), an award in the Innovation category.

These heritages, through their efforts in innovation, sustainability and collaboration, have contributed significantly to the development and protection of natural and cultural assets, inspiring people and organisations around the world, and are clearly deserving of these awards.
