Kurchatov Institute - supported by Aflex Distribution - Has Chosen 2X Remote Application Server

"We are very positive about the adoption of a 2X solution. At the moment we are using 2X RAS for its main features: application delivery and load balancing. We are very satisfied with the seamless end-user experience and the high availability gained with the workload-based server load balancing. In future, we plan to use 2X RAS for a wider range of applications. We will deliver specialized Windows-based applications to a variety of mobile devices used by our employees."
Victor Artamonov, Head of IT at Kurchatov Institute

The Kurchatov Institute brings together 15 research institutes and scientific and technological structures, which form an important part of the Russian nuclear physics complex. Strategically important government facilities like these need reliable services and solutions for data storage, protection and management. Virtualization is a fundamental component of the Institute’s strategy to deliver a seamless experience to its workforce. The Institute must provide high-speed data recovery, minimizing the risk of data loss with an integrated IT infrastructure. The infrastructure used previously did not fully support their needs; in particular, web access was unsatisfactory because it only supported Internet Explorer. Also, they did not have working RDP connections for Android and iOS.

The Challenge

Institute staff required access to corporate resources from mobile devices based on Android and iOS. Required applications included: document management system EOS, 1C and Consultant+.

To tackle this challenge, the Institute considered products from different manufacturers. 2X RAS was chosen because the product was the best in terms of price and performance. The possibility to guarantee access to corporate applications from Chrome browser and Android and iOS devices was another important advantage. The Institute was also attracted by the presence of a free load balancing component.

The Solution

London, UK and Dallas, TEXAS, December 11th, 2014 2X Software, a global leader in virtual application solutions and Aflex Distribution, a leading software and hardware distributor in Russia, today announced that they have completed the implementation of 2X RAS in the Kurchatov Institute Infrastructure Research Center. “The Kurchatov Institute IT Manager can now deliver virtual applications not only to workstations, but also to mobile devices” – Aflex Distribution, quoted by CNews. The Kurchatov Institute has selected Aflex Distribution as an IT partner. Apart from delivery, the project experts at Aflex Distribution also helped to set up the software package and provided consultations on the transition.
