GARDEN CITY, NY, September 2014—Dr. Haki R. Madhubuti will present a lecture entitled “The Malcolm X Legacy: What It Means to Be Black and Literate in the 21st Century and the Importance of Art in the Maturation of All People” on Monday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. The lecture will be held in the Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom in the Ruth S. Harley University Center at Adelphi University, 1 South Ave, Garden City, NY. It is free and open to the public.

Dr. Madhubuti is an award-winning author and educator and is considered one of the architects of the Black Arts Movement. He has published numerous volumes of poetry and essays as well as many works of non-fiction. For his work he has received many awards and honors, including the American Book Award and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Dr. Madhubuti has held faculty positions at universities around the country.

As a strong proponent of independent Black institutions as well as an influential leader in the Black literary tradition, Dr. Madhubuti founded the Third World Press, the oldest independent publisher of Black thought and literature in the United States. He has also helped found several private schools.
