Trimethylolethane has a stable neopentyl structure, making it suitable for a variety of applications, including resins.
Applications in alkyd and polyester liquid resins make trimethylolethane ideal for architectural coatings, powder coatings, and coatings for the transportation and marine industries. This application largely dominates the use of trimethylolethane and is in demand across the globe. Excellent corrosion resistance, better abrasion resistance, and reduced discoloration of coating resins outperform similar compound groups. Trimethylolethane is also used to make oil-free polyester resins with excellent color retention.
Polyester prepared from trimethylolethane, siliconized to provide enhanced heat and weather resistance. Trimethylolethane is also one of the best compounds in the surface treatment of titanium dioxide, thereby improving its performance and providing resistance to heat discoloration.
