The American Interventional Pain Physicians have announced Alan Kaye, of Shreveport, Louisiana, to be the honoree of their Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his long service.

Dr. Alan David Kaye, MD, PhD, occupies the position of Professor within the Department of Anesthesiology at LSU Health Shreveport and also is a Professor within the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Neurosciences. He is likewise the Provost, Chief Academic Officer, and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at LSU Health Shreveport.
Before his appearance in Nov 2019, Dr. Kaye had been a Professor, Program Director, and Head of the Department of Anesthesiology at LSU Health in New Orleans for 15 years. Previous to arriving at LSU Health Shreveport, he maintained the position of Professor, Program Director, and Chairman for 6 years at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Department of Anesthesiology in Lubbock, Texas.
Previously, he served as Medical Director at Greater New Orleans Surgical Center, Director of Resident Recruitment, Program Director and Instructor of Anesthesiology at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans. He hails from New York but was brought up in Los Angeles and Tucson.
Dr. Kaye earned two Bachelor's degrees and a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Arizona. He was a national contender for the Rhodes Scholarship, selected as Honors Student of the Year, included in Who's Who, inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and chosen as Outstanding Graduating Senior in his graduating class.
He accomplished an apprenticeship in Internal Medicine at the Alton Oschner Clinic and received instruction in Anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Tulane University where he was chief resident and president of the Louisiana State Residents Component of the American Society of Anesthesiology.
He also accomplished a pain management residency at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center guided by Dr. Gabor Racz, Dr. Prithvi Raj, and Dr. Miles Day. He has been formally accepted as a professional in Anesthesiology and has acquired a distinctive endorsement in Torment Administration from the American Board of Anesthesiology.
In 1997, Dr. Kaye attained his Doctorate in pharmacology. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Pain Medicine and the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians.
He was formerly a National Board Examiner in the field of Anesthesiology.
