Automated testingTesting is one of the major stages for software quality assurance. Automated testing is its component. It uses software to check test performance, which helps to reduce time of testing and simplify its process.
Nowadays a large number of tools with graphical interfaces are created to facilitate the work of programmers and increase their productivity. These processes have increased requirements for Testers. Now they must handle large amounts of information for short term. Therefore the use of automated tests is a necessary condition for saving testers’ time.
Modern development tools create relatively complex applications, and their manual testing is a very time-consuming process. Another drawback of testing is that the results of the tests are not saved and it is difficult to repeat again. Automated test allows to simplify the process of manual testing, to make it the more convenient and accurate.
There are many applications for automated testing. The most popular ones are:
• Mercury LoadRunner
• Segue SilkPerformer
• Rational TestStudio
Using these tools helps testers to automate the following tasks:
• product installation
• test data creation
• GUI interaction
• problem detection
However automated tests cannot completely replace manual testing. Automation of the process of testing is very expensive, and consequently automated testing is only a part of the manual testing. The best option of use of automated testing is regressive testing.
