Pakistan Telecoms Industry Report - 2023-2030 published
Idem Est Research and Advisory, boutique telecommunications and digital infrastructure market research and advisory firm, released today new research with the publication of the Pakistan Telecoms Industry report. The report highlights the growth of Pakistan's telecommunications sector, driven by the rising demand for reliable and affordable connectivity services. The population growth and increasing disposable income have resulted in the expansion of mobile and broadband networks, despite macroeconomic and inflationary challenges.
Landry Fevre, Idem Est Research & Advisory's Director, says: "Idem Est Research forecasts growth in mobile and fixed broadband subscribers to reach 283 million by 2030 and an increase of 65 million internet users by the same year. The telecommunications industry is expected to maintain growth momentum, with an average growth rate of 6.2% from 2023 to 2030, driven by capital expenditures from service providers to improve their networks."
The mobile market in Pakistan is dominated by four major operators: Jazz, Zong, Telenor, and Ufone. To increase revenue, these operators are expanding into e-commerce, smart home, and digital payments. The market is becoming increasingly data-driven, with operators delivering innovative offerings and increasing market segmentation.
Telecommunications infrastructure assets, such as mobile towers, data centres, and submarine cables and fibre infrastructure, are attracting high valuation multiples from infrastructure funds, pension funds, and government funds, offering investment opportunities. The report also highlights Pakistan's low fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) penetration, but predicts strong growth in fixed broadband subscribers as investments in full-fibre networks continue. However, opportunities in Pakistan's greenfield telecom market must be viewed in light of the challenges such as lack of physical supporting infrastructure and reliable power transmission and distribution.
"Pakistan has low fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) penetration and is expected to see strong growth in fixed broadband subscribers from 10% household penetration today. The report highlights so far a dearth of inbound transactions in the market. Larger transactions in tower companies with mobile operators expected to offload mobile towers and the expected merger between mobile operators of PTCL (partly owned by E&, formerly Etisalat group of the UAE) and Telenor to potentially become the second largest mobile operator behind Jazz."
Pakistan's dynamic and understudied telecommunications market is one of the remaining last frontier offering investment opportunities in mobile and fixed digital infrastructure. Although Pakistan's greenfield telecom market holds huge potential, opportunities must be viewed in light of real challenges, including a lack of physical supporting infrastructure and stable and reliable power transmission and distribution.
Key companies mentioned in this report:
Associated Technologies, AWAL, China Mobile, Cybernet, edotco, engro, Fiber Link, Jazz, Mobilink, Nayatel, Prime Networks, Pakistan Telecommunication Co Ltd (PTCL), Telenor, Ufone, Veon, Warid, Wateen
