Octopus Care and Twani Naturals
Sometimes seemingly insignificant incidents sow the seeds of glory, leading ordinary people on extraordinary journeys. Taking the cues as the events unfold, the discerning ones go ahead and chart their own course.Something of the same sort happened with three Kashmiri women. What binds these three more closely than any other filial bond is their compassionate heart that reaches out to the less fortunate. Their social conscience keeps nudging them, so much so that they are ever ready to take up the cudgels, anywhere, anytime.
This trio founded Octopus Care which manufactures and markets Twani, the range of authentic personal care products, that bring together the essence of nature and scientifically researched high-performance actives. But of course, it's more than just that.
To get an idea of their journey, it's imperative to mention some real people's stories that shaped Octopus Care. About how despite their diverse and blooming careers, certain incidents jolted the founders to look beyond. They did. And how!
Health issues caused by the social stigma attached to menses.
As is common in rural areas, women use unhygienic means like cloth from discarded garments during their menstrual period. They were first galvanized into action by the plight of a rural woman who suffered serious health issues caused by using the cloth of an old blouse during menses. What made things worse was a rusted hook that had remained attached to the cloth.
Shaken by this kind of apathy and lack of awareness about health and hygiene, coupled with the non-availability of affordable sanitary napkins in the rural areas, they organized numerous health and awareness camps in the villages of Gujarat. They put together a team of village youth, sourced sanitary napkins, and made these available to the women at their doorstep. Thus, 'Maitreya', became a trusted friend of the women, helping them gain some self-pride and confidence.
Look good to feel good
Another turning point was an earnest request by a roadside guava seller. With eyes full of hope she approached them to get some remedy for the dark spots on her face. This spunky woman was very specific about what she wanted. It had to be natural and affordable. Motivated by her faith, they researched and prepared a blend of face oils suited for her skin issue. It worked. The seed for developing skin care products was sown.
The Takeaways
The first takeaway was women's health and empowerment are interlinked with socioeconomic development. The second was that the fundamental human aspirations, like looking good, are the same, irrespective of caste, creed, color, or status. Going ahead, they tread upon the road hitherto not taken. Pitching in all they had, resources, aspirations, and dreams, they dared to envision an entity that would serve the twin purpose of women empowerment and the socio-economical upliftment of the rural youth. Thus Octopus Care came into existence.
Initial floundering steps gradually led to firmer footing. Ecologically conscious, the founders strive for mindful usage of resources for sustainable development. The state-of-art machinery equipped plant in a quiet village on the banks of Narmada, Octopus Care creates products that form the Twani range and transforms lives.
Twani- Powered by Nature, Enhanced by Science
Twani is a portmanteau word coined from two Hindi words Twak (meaning skin) and Avani (meaning earth) that rightly embodies the spirit of natural care for skin and hair.
Twani synergizes nature's largesse and scientific research for holistic skin & hair care. It is a select range of authentic personal care products made from high-quality, cold-pressed natural oils & extracts along with scientifically proven plant-origin high-performance actives. This range is curated to suit the varied skin needs of different skin types.
From handmade glycerine soaps to serums, from hair oils to shampoos, Twani is the name in skin and hair care. High quality of the products is ensured by a robust R&D, system of checks at every step right from sourcing ingredients from authentic vendors across the globe to the final packaging and delivery.
Always a people story
Apart from the founders, it's the local youth who made and shaped Twani & Octopus Care. The skilled and unskilled, having been able to channel their potential, have a strong sense of belongingness with the company, that helps them work as a cohesive unit. Improvisation is a continual process, not just with respect to products or technology, but with the people and the quality of their life. This makes the bedrock of Octopus Care.
So every time you check up on Twani or use a Twani product, be assured that it has touched and uplifted many a life. And now, you are a part of it too!
