AluScan finds metal in conductive products

NÜRNBERG / KIRCHBERG IM WALD - Mesutronic introduces the new AluScan metal detection system during the FachPack 2007 trade show (September 25th to 27th) in Nürnberg. You may see the alternative to dangerous x-rays and high ownership expenses in hall 9, booth 125. According to Mr. Dürrmeier (49), the managing director of Mesutronic, „even the smallest stainless and ferrous metal particles are reliably and safely detected in stable aluminium packaging”.

The centrepiece of the new metal detector series AluScan is an intelligent magnetic field surface sensor, which detects the remaining magnetism from metallic contaminants. The products to be examined are magnetised on the conveyor before being transported through the metal detector. The non-magnetisable aluminium packages are thus invisible for the metal sensor. Contaminated products are detected and rejected via a reject gate (either pusher or blow nozzle). According to Dürrmeier the AluScan system which is comprised of a metal sensor, conveyor and reject mechanism is easily retrofitted. The test runs are completely documented, as required by IFS standards.

Meat and cheese without product effect for the AluScan
According to Dürrmeier, the AluScan has, in certain applications, also significant advantages over conventional metal search technology. “Conductive products, such as fresh meats or cheese, do not create disturbing product effect with the AluScan”. Humidity, salty or varying product temperature do not affect the detection results. Wires and chips are detected equally well, regardless of product orientation. Orientation dependent signal variation is not an issue with this system, according to Dürrmeier. „The AluScan is the ideal system when the detection of fragments from injection needles in porcine meats or links from the butchers glove have to be reliably detected”.
Advantages over x-ray technology
X-ray scanners do not always fulfill the high expectations, according to Dürrmeier. Often it is the product itself that has high density differences. Another time it is variations in the production process which require high tolerances thresholds.
AluScan detecting systems on the contrary, ignore these product and production generated effects. The AluScan metal detector, in contrast to the x-ray scanner, works without wear and does not require maintenance. Another advantage: The magenetic field sensor of the Alu-Scan system is from the goup of the so-called passive sensors, which do not generate dangerous rays and therefore do not need to be registered. For this reason, an x-ray technician, as required by law, is not required to operate an AluScan detector. „The cost advantages are clearly with the AluScan.“
