New Asia Film Industry Report for 2007 details the explosive growth of the movie market in 9 key territories
New report looks at the status and future prospects of the movie markets in Asia, the fastest growing region in the worldLOS ANGELES, CA – September 20, 2007 – Entertainment Asia Network (EAN), a research firm focused on surveying the media industries of Asia, has announced the release of a new report titled “Asia Film Industry Report 2007” that seeks to provide an overview of key Asian territories and their relevant film markets through details on market size, population segmentation, production, financing, distribution, exhibition, export market, import market and home video/DVD market.
The purpose of this new report is to analyze the current status and future prospects of the film/movie industry in all of the major Asia territories that include the following: China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The report forecasts are based on economic and geographic factors that have significantly contributed to the region’s rapid development such as population totals, purchasing power and domestic consumer spending growth, rising ticket prices, increasing number of plush multiplex theaters and screens, increase in domestic film production, emergence of home video infrastructure, rise in quality and quantity in local creative talent and cultural changes.
Asia’s powerhouse economies of China, India, South Korea and Japan will continue to post spectacular gains and the financial strength of these growing markets will eventually result in an Asia that is capable of sustaining itself with the regional profits alone. To achieve the sense of immense market potential that is Asia, EAN forecasts that the four nation’s domestic theatrical movie market, a sector that exhibits the least amount of regional variance, will have combined total revenues of over $10.5 billion by the year 2020 with Gross Domestic Product totals that will reach over $16 billion. Furthermore, EAN suggests that the four regions will follow a steep upward trend to overtake the U.S. industry by sometime in the year 2025.
The report ultimately seeks to deliver a clear, overall view and accurate assessment of Asia’s entertainment and media industry, which can prove to be difficult as the entertainment sectors in Asia differ drastically in terms of structure, organization and definition from region to region. For purposes of accuracy, simplicity and clarity of understanding the broad picture, the report focuses on just the film industry to get its message across, as it is the one industry that exhibits the least amount of regional variance across the area. Through objective analysis and research, the report illustrates the potentially enormous force that Asia will become in the global marketplace over the next 40 to 50 years.
