“The world is turning”
is a double journey round the world for children: In volume one an interview trip with kids from South Africa, Tanzania, Burkina Faso and Haiti who tell something about their situation, their country, their desires and hope, they sing songs or recite short poems. And the programme is also a music trip, in the first volume a brisk and diverting mix of songs from South Africa, Tanzania, Mali, Brazil, Haiti, Jamaica and the United States.
The magazine is moderated by Joyce (10) and Hassan (11) who both live in Berlin and represent the multilateral and -cultural idea: Joyce has a German mother and an Indonesian father and Hassan's parents come from Lebanon.
"The World is Turning" wants to encourage all the children round the world not to give up hope even if they go through a bad situation at the moment - that is underlined for example by a blind guy from South Africa who says his blindness couldn't prevent him to do what he wants. Or in the second volume a former child soldier from Liberia (West Africa) tells his story how he was hijacked and forced to fight in the civil war of his country - and how he started a new life after that. Now he is producer of a Liberian children's radio station. The title "The World is Turning" has a twofold sense: The world is on the move and we take part in this movement, we are in the thick of it! And it also means that as the world's movement doesn't stop, its development won't stop!
The first four volumes present interviews with kids from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, as well with two radio makers from Liberia and Germany. Further volumes occupy with respectively one personality who established a social programme. For example, the Scot Mel Young, co-founder of the Homeless Football World Cup or Gisèle Yitamben from Cameroon, the president of Asafe, an organisation helping independent African business women, answered the interview-questions of the RADIJOJO!-team!
"The World is Turning" is produced by Malte Heidemann, technical realisation by Michael Heyner.
