Gleistein Ropes secures sponsorship deals with Alex Thomson Racing onboard HUGO BOSS and with the Neutrogena Sailing Team
Official Rope Supplier until end 2016Press information
Bremen, 28 May 2014
The latest sponsorship agreements made by Bremen-based high-tech rope manufacturer Gleistein Ropes ensure two prestigious sailing teams now benefit from high performance running rigging from Gleistein. With immediate effect, Gleistein Ropes is the Official Rope Supplier to both Alex Thomson Racing onboard HUGO BOSS as well as to the Neutrogena Sailing Team. Each sponsorship deal with Gleistein runs until the end of 2016. An explicit focus lies in the delivery of particularly durable rigging to ensure utmost reliability. The teams will be vying for honours in various offshore regattas throughout the sponsorship period with Alex Thomson Racing already signed up for the legendary Vendée Globe race in 2016. Among the racing highlights before then is the participation of both teams in the third edition of the renowned double-handed, non-stop around-the-world Barcelona World Race, starting 31 December 2014, which is also widely recognised as being among the most thrilling and challenging tests of endurance for the crews, vessels and ropes.
Gleistein Ropes is proud to announce two major new sponsorship agreements running from now until the end of 2016, with high profile international sailing teams: Alex Thomson Racing onboard HUGO BOSS as well as the Neutrogena Sailing Team. Both teams will be provided with high performance running rigging from Gleistein Ropes as their respective Official Rope Supplier.
Official Rope Supplier to Alex Thomson Racing onboard HUGO BOSS
British skipper Alex Thomson needs no introduction. Besides his impressive list of achievements in international offshore racing, he is also renowned for hair-raising feats such as “The Mast Walk” and “The Keel Walk”. Not afraid to push things to the limit – but never leaving anything to chance – Alex Thomson relies on a team of professionals and equipment that’s second to none in every respect. “Round-the-world racing is real test of endurance. Your equipment needs to be reliable and anything less than that won’t cut it. We know Gleistein Ropes as a company that delivers high performance rigging with proven reliability and are delighted to be partnering with them,” comments Alex Thomson on the sponsorship deal with Gleistein. The first regatta with Gleistein rigging on board will be the OCEAN MASTERS New York to Barcelona Race in June this year. Spaniard Pepe Ribes will temporarily assume the role of skipper in the absence of Alex Thomson – who is awaiting the birth of his second child at this time – and will be supported by co-skipper Ryan Breymaier from the United States. Alex Thomson will rejoin his team and take to the helm of HUGO BOSS thereafter, steering it to the starting line of the Barcelona World Race at the end of 2014. Alex Thomson Racing and team HUGO BOSS are also set to participate in the 2016 edition of the infamous Vendée Globe solo non-stop around-the-world race.
Official Rope Supplier to Neutrogena Sailing Team
As of immediately, the Neutrogena Sailing Team will take course with rigging from Gleistein Ropes on board. Before heading out in competition for the double-handed, round-the-world Barcelona World Race at the end of the year, the team will set its sails on 1 June 2014 for the OCEAN MASTERS New York to Barcelona Race. One of the world’s most revered helmsmen and with six circumnavigations to his name, Spain’s most capped offshore sailor, Guillermo Altadill will skipper Neutrogena Sailing Team. His co-skipper is Chilean José Muñoz who will become the first South American sailor to participate in an IMOCA round-the-world event.
Both sponsorship deals that name Gleistein Ropes as Official Rope Supplier are set to run until the end of 2016 in the initial term. All running rigging will be supplied to the yachts as part of the agreement, ensuring Alex Thomson Racing onboard HUGO BOSS as well as the Neutrogena Sailing Team will directly benefit from high performance Gleistein ropes boasting exceptional endurance and handling characteristics ¬– which are the result of extensive previous experience in field of extreme offshore racing and continuous research and development into state-of-the-art ropes.
