Isabellenhütte developed the new alloy Noventin

Isabellenhütte has developed the high-precision resistance alloy Noventin based on a copper-manganese alloy. With a resistivity of 90 µΩcm, Noventin features a resistivity unlike any offered before that is exactly between the Isaohm (133 µΩcm) and Manganin (43 µΩcm) alloys. As a result, Noventin offers users an even more targeted selection of high-precision resistance alloys. The new development offers the benefits of resistivity with a low temperature dependence (± 20 ppm/K in the temperature range between 20 °C and 50 °C), high long-term stability and a low EMF against copper of ± 0.3 µV/K. Due to the frequent use of copper as a contact material, the latter benefit plays an important role in avoiding fault current caused by temperature differences. Copper-manganese alloys have been used for years in a variety of applications on account of their good technological features, such as low melting points, good malleability, mechanical stability and corrosion resistance. Isabellenhütte developed the Manganin alloy, which is also based on copper and manganese, in the late 19th century. To this day, it remains the state of the art for high-precision resistance alloys.

Alloy to be unveiled at Wire 2014

Noventin can be used in a wide range of applications, such as in the making of wire-wound resistors and heating resistors or as hard-soldering or construction material. Isabellenhütte will unveil this innovation at this year’s Wire, the global trade fair for the wire and cable industry, in Dusseldorf. Those interested can find out more about using the material as a wire with up to 1 mm in diameter at booth 11B33 in hall 11 from 7 to 11 April.
MANGANIN®, ISAOHM® and NOVENTIN® are registered trademarks of Isabellenhütte Heusler GmbH & Co. KG.

Noventin technical data:

Resistivity:
0.90 Ωmm²/m

Temperature coefficient (TCR):
between 20 °C and 50 °C
±20 ppm/K, special ±10 ppm/K

EMF against copper
at 20° C:
±0.5 µV/K, special ±0.3 µV/K

Isabellenhütte Heusler GmbH & Co. KG has been owned by the Heusler family since 1827. With its resistance and thermoelectric alloys, the company lives up to the high quality standards of electronics and sets itself apart through custom solutions tailored to fit customers’ needs. Other business units are dedicated to the production of precision and power resistors, while the measurement technology designed by Isabellenhütte is considered to lead the field in shunt-based current measuring systems. The company developed the Manganin alloy, which is based on copper and manganese, in 1889. To this day, it remains the state of the art for high-precision resistance alloys. Around 720 staff are employed at its headquarters and production works in Dillenburg, Hesse.

Isabellenhütte meets high covid-19-related demand in record time
Isabellenhütte, a specialist for precision alloys, supplies the alloy ISOTAN® as a heat conductor for ventilators. When demand for ventilators shot up as a result of the recent developments related to the coronavirus, Isabellenhütte put their rapid and reliable supply performance to the test. This is project organized by the federal government in which Isabellenhütte acts as a supplier to a reputable cable manufacturer. This cooperation had already been established for

Isabellenhütte receives type examination certification from PTB Braunschweig
As a specialist for shunt measurement technology, Isabellenhütte presents the first shunt-based, calibration law-compliant DC energy reference meter IEM-DCC-500 for charging infrastructure following the successful completion of the type examination. The DC meters are now available for purchase by manufacturers of charging stations and can be integrated into the designs of their applications. The basis of the type examination certification was the successfully conducted metrological measurement series (accuracy class B), the

New FMx shunt family: Small and low-ohmic
Isabellenhütte has developed a new range of precision resistors in standard sizes with resistances ranging from 1 to 6 mOhm for applications which require small and low-ohmic shunts. In terms of their construction, the components are also less complex than the current ISA-PLAN®resistance families. And yet, they offer the same performance quality: very good long-term stability, a low temperature coefficient, and low thermoelectric voltages. With the FMx shunt family, Isabellenhütte has

BAX shunt: High-performance component for electric vehicles
Electromobility is steadily gaining ground in the automotive industry, and its relevance is increasing accordingly. With the presentation of its new BAX shunt, Isabellenhütte is now taking due account of the requirements that this trend is imposing on components for high-power battery management systems. In the last year, demand for high-performance shunts for use in electric vehicles has skyrocketed. This is down to the pace of development in the electromobility sector.
