03-17-2014 06:30 PM CET | Associations & Organizations

Press release from: Hillsides

On Saturday, March 22, the Trojan Affiliates, a University of Southern California alumnae organization, will hold an art supply drive from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. for the children who reside at Hillsides. The organization is asking community members to drop off needed art supplies, such as paints, drawing pads, markers, pastels, and modeling clay, to Hillsides’ main campus, which is located at 940 Avenue 64, Pasadena, CA 91105. Volunteers will be on hand to collect the supplies.
In addition, the Trojan Affiliates will make picture frames with and provide refreshments for the children from 1:30 – 4: 30 p.m.
The event, “Let’s Get Crafty with Hillsides,” is part of USC’s 3rd annual Alumni Day of SCervice, an international effort that gives the University’s alumni and friends opportunities to participate in local service projects within their respective communities.
“We are so appreciative of the Trojan Affiliates for selecting Hillsides as its Day of SCervice volunteer project,” said Hillsides chief executive officer, Joseph M. Costa. “Art is a huge emotional release for the children who live here at Hillsides, most of whom have experienced severe trauma. Through creative projects, children learn to express themselves and gain a sense of self-confidence and acceptance.”
The Trojan Affiliates is a women’s alumni organization based in the San Gabriel Valley dedicated to developing fundraising projects to provide scholarships for deserving USC students and contributing to the advancement of education.
At the event, volunteers and those dropping off art supplies will be given the opportunity to have their picture taken in a life-size frame featuring both the USC and Hillsides logos. They will be encouraged to share their pictures on their Facebook pages and other social media sites to show their support of the event and Hillsides.
For more information about the event, please contact Laura Kelso, Hillsides director of community resources, at lkelso@hillsides.org or 323-254-2274, ext. 251.
