Press release from: Elcon Systemtechnik GmbH

PRESS RELEASE:

ELCON DEMONSTRATES AT THE FTTH CONFERENCE IN STOCKHOLM HOW OPERATORS CAN USE INVESTMENTS FOR FIBRE ROLLOUTS TO OPTIMIZE THEIR NETWORKS AND SHORTEN ROLLOUT TIMES.

Network operators around the world are forced to roll out fibre in their access networks enabling them to fulfil the rapidly growing end users´ demand for higher bandwidth and faster internet connections. This huge challenge for network operators offers a unique chance to optimise the access network for the next decades. ELCON is demonstrating the following innovations at the FTTH Conference in Stockholm, booth S20 on the 19th and 20th February 2014:

• The FTTHomebox: an Open Access-ready fibre termination, which allows for reliable performance without any service intervention for 20+ years;
• ELCON´s RPS 1600, a power feeding sytem, which improves rollout times and helps network operators to save up to 40% of their fibre rollout costs;
• The high-performance series of FOS 1000 home gateways, which enable operators to offer a very flexible end user service portfolio with a single CPE;
• A positive business case for migrating ISDN small medium enterprise voice customers (up to 8 times basic rate interfaces), to “All IP” networks can be enabled with ELCON´s BIG 5530;
• The latest innovation from our research labs: ELCON´s CoolPOF prototype can transmit more than 950 Mbps over a low-cost plastic optical fibre cable to be installed by the end user

Hartmannsdorf, February 2nd, 2014

The increasing demand for higher bandwidth and faster internet connections force network operators to permanently optimize and redesign their networks. To fulfil the end-user demands, fibre needs to be rolled out in access networks and terminated much closer to the end-customer. This is a big challenge for network operators who have hard times to plan these massive investments by ensuring a return of investment in short time.

“Any investment in a telecoms network should result in an optimisation of rollout and operational costs in the longer term. ELCON´s latest product innovations are focused to lower the total cost of ownership (TCO). We believe that fibre access networks should be rolled out cost-efficiently, but not at any cost. The added value of fibre access network lies in our view of network operations and the management of Open Access”, says Werner Neubauer, CEO of ELCON.

A pre-conference workshop titled “Considerations to secure the value of your fibre network in the long term” has been organized by ELCON together with its partners. This workshop will take place under the umbrella of the FTTH Council Europe as a pre-conference workshop on the 18th of February 2014 from 1pm to 6pm.

At the Stockholm FTTH Conference ELCON will show on the 19th and 20th February 2014 on booth S20 its latest innovations, which help operators to overcome the challenges when rolling out fibre in access networks.
