A True World Premiere – For the first time ever Cynthia Johnson performed Funkytown on TV

Minneapolis, MN, Februrary, 2014, Cynthia Johnson is among the celebrity guests at one of the most important French TV shows “Les Années Bonheur”. The successful, entertainment television show is presented by France´s most popular entertainer Patrick Sébastien since 2007 and counts over 70 million viewers per episode.

In the first episode of 2014, Sébastien receives American singer songwriter Cynthia Johnson, original singer of the number one smash-hit “Funkytown”. The song is one of the disco era´s most monumental singles that went straight to #1 in 28 countries around the world and has been sold over 35 million times winning Gold and Platinum. This extraordinary success places Cynthia Johnson among the three most successful Minneapolis´ singers of all times, together with Prince and Bob Dylan.
Now Johnson performed “Funkytown” for the first time ever live in front of TV cameras - a true world premiere. The result is a stunning performance of a powerful, charismatic woman who hasn´t lost any of her energy and youth.
The popular TV show is broadcasted in France, Belgium and Switzerland by the public TV-network France2, and also in the French overseas territories, Europe, Orient, Africa, Asia, Pacific, Latin America, Canada and USA by TV5 Monde (broadcasts in over 200 countries) in prime time on Saturday evenings in January 2014. The show aired on January 11th in France, Belgium and Switzerland and on January 18th in Canada. In the US it broadcasted on TV5 Monde on January 25th at 10 pm (Central) and 8 pm (Pacific). The 25th of January was also the broadcast date for further European countries and most of the other territories covered by TV5 Monde. Cynthia Johnson´s presence in France was also associated to multiple interviews and other public appearances to promote her highly anticipated new solo album “All That I Am” that was published in December 2013 on the Megabien Music label (available at www.shop.megabien.net). With this album, Johnson once again proves that she knows how to use her remarkable gift as a singer and songwriter but for the first time also as a producer. The appealing sentiments and stirring sound of this exceptional R&B record are inspiring listeners.
The album is also a proof of Johnson´s roots, it features some of Minnesota´s most talented musicians, such as multi-instrumentalist and co-producer Jack Robinson (Prince, Brandy, Chaka Kahn, Kiss, Tears for Fears), drummers Michael Bland (Prince, Jonny Lang) and Kirk Johnson (Prince), keyboarder Ricky Peterson (Stevie Nicks, John Meyer), bassist Tony Axtell (Donny Osmond, also house sound engineer of “A Prairie Home Companion”) or famed Cuban pianist Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera (settled in MN in 2001). It also includes songs with guest vocalist Giorge Pettus (opening act of Whitney Houston) and local, upcoming rappers Jeson and Lei´tah.
