Carbamide, which is also called as urea, is a highly soluble nitrogenous substance that occurs naturally in human livers. Under high pressure, ammonia, and carbon dioxide (CO2) are combined to create solid, odourless white pellets or crystals, which are then used in their commercial synthesis. The main purpose of urea is to make urethane, which is then further polymerised to create polyurethane foams.
The chemical formula of carbamide is CH4N2O and its molecular weight is 60.056 g/mol. Carbamide is produced through the Bosch-Meiser Urea Process and phosgene. It comprises two equilibrium reactions, the first one is a carbamate formation and the other one is the conversion of urea.
