4th Middle East and Africa Insurance Summit commences today at Dubai
Supported by the Emirates Insurance Association, 4th Annual Middle East and Africa Insurance Summit commenced today at Dusit Thani Hotel - Dubai.Understanding the market, discussing best practices, addressing current challenges and evaluating future opportunities are the key points of discussion at the summit with special focus on developments in Takaful and Reinsurance, Bancassurance and Emerging Product Innovations.
Conference chairman, Robin Ali - Consultant-Health Insurance, Health Funding at Dubai Health Authority welcomed all participants with his opening speech, followed by the inaugural keynote speech titled "Overview of the Middle East Insurance Sector", delivered by His Excellency Saleh Al Dhahiry , Chairman of Emirates Insurance Association.
The highlight among the pre-lunch sessions was the CEO Panel entitled “The Middle East & Africa Insurance
outlook- learning from the changing times”, which focused on regions readiness to adapt with the changing trends in the current industry scenario. Moderated by Irshied Tayeb, Head of Insurance at Bin Shabib & Associates (BSA) LLP this panel was joined by Dr Abdul Zahra Abdullah Ali, CEO of National General Insurance Co.; Douglas Hoto, Group CEO at First Mutual Holdings Ltd; Hazem Al Madi, CEO of Green Crescent Insurance Company; Andrew Smith, CEO of RAK Insurance, Kenneth G. Maw, CEO of Insure Direct (Brokers) LLC.
Post lunch, Fatai K. Lawal, President of Chartered Insurance Intitute of Nigeria, in his presentation, will provide an overview of the burgeoning Africa insurance sector. Overview on the Kuwait insurance market will be the main focus of the session conducted by Mohammed El Dishish, CEO of Emirates Re. Dr Haider Al Yousuf, Director of Healthcare Funding at Dubai Health Authority, will elaborate on UAE‘s mandatory health insurance scheme and future predictions. Actuarial issues in health insurance will be explained by the Managing Director & Chief Actuary of Taha Actuaries & Consultants- Nabila Taha.
The Reinsurance Panel, will highlight the path ahead for the Middle East and Africa's reinsurance industry. The expert panelists for this session includes names like Dr Frank Mayer, CEO of Munich ReUnderwriting Agents(DIFC) Ltd; Rainer Lehner, CEO of Asia Capital Reinsurance Group; Fareed Lutfi, Secretary General at Emirates Insurance Association and Matthew Warren, CEO of Talbot Underwriting.
CEO of RAK Insurance, Andrew Smith will explain the need and importance of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) thus helping the participants to understand the organizational structure of risk management. Infusing sustainable partnerships between banks and insurance firms will be elaborated by Shyam Sankar, Head of Bancassurance at RAK insurance. Tobias Schneider, Consultant at Finaccord in his presentation will focus on Global Bancassurance, and different strategies of the World's top 125 Retail Banking Groups.
The first day of the summit will end with closing remarks from the event chair, Robin Ali. Day two of the summit tomorrow promises an interesting mix of panel discussions featuring Regulatory Panel and CEO Takaful Panel, Case-Study session on “Rising Marine threats in the MENA region- solutions to curb financial risks” and some very relevant presentation topics. Speaker presentations elaborating on emerging product innovation will be witnessed from Insurance Commission of Jordan, First Mutual Holdings Ltd, SEIB Insurance and Daman Health Insurance. Participants will also gain shared knowledge about Takaful in the region, by speakers from Watania, SABB Takaful, UIB Insurance Brokers and many more.
