PM WANI Wi-Fi SCHEME

PM WANI stands for Pradhan Mantri Wi-Fi Access Network Interface and this scheme was launched by our Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi in December 2020.

The PM WANI WI-FI scheme was introduced and its primary focus was to create Employment and Business Opportunities and to increase internet access at very low cost across the country with the help of Wi-Fi Hotspots and also to strengthen our digital India mission.

The PM WANI framework contains the following components:

1 - Public Data Office (PDO): It will establish, maintain and operate only WANI compliant Wi-Fi Access Points and deliver broadband services to subscribers.
2 - Public Data Office Aggregator (PDOA): It will be an aggregator of PDOs and perform the functions relating to Authorization and Accounting.
3 - App Provider: It will develop an App to register users and discover WANI compliant Wi-Fi hotspots in the nearby area and display the same within the App for accessing the internet service.
4 - Central Registry: It will maintain the details of App Providers, PDOAs, and PDOs. To begin with, the Central Registry will be maintained by C-DoT.

OBJECTIVES OF PM WANI WI-FI SCHEME:
1.It is contemplated that the proliferation of public Wi-Fi networks throughout the country will greatly increase internet access at cheap prices.
2.Increased Wi-Fi access will bring with it an improved quality of life, especially in an increasingly digital economy.
Furthermore, the decentralized nature of the WANI ecosystem is meant to address last mile connectivity and allow access points to grow organically in places that need them the most.
