Fujitsu to build eco-friendly data centre near London

A 65,000 square foot green data centre is soon to be constructed on a brown-field site near London, Fujitsu Services has revealed.

The new low carbon footprint data centre will be designed to save enough electricity to power up to six thousand homes every year - equivalent to an annual saving of ten thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide. Through an IT modernisation programme, power consumption of IT systems housed in the data centre will be reduced by 50% making large cost savings for customers of Fujitsu.

Fujitsu expects the high specification data centre to be used by both the public and private sectors in the UK and across Europe, particularly by organisations looking for a data centre with a low carbon footprint. The new data centre will also help ease the current shortage of data centres in London as many companies have recently reported capacity problems, long delays and problems with local planning restrictions on building or extending data centre facilities - http://www.fujitsu.com/uk/.

“Companies have realised that expanding their data centres to cope with IT growth is expensive and wastes resources,” said Martin Provoost, Head of Data Centres at Fujitsu Services. “They need lower costs and want their data centres and systems to be efficient and planet friendly. This new Fujitsu data centre provides the capacity the UK needs now and through our modernisation programme with our customers, we will drive out historic inefficiency in IT systems, reduce costs and create a sustainable green data centre environment.”
