Participants in Local Football Camp Help Make Holidays Bright for Hillsides Children

(PASADENA) The 80 or so boys who attended a local two-day football camp conducted by former NFL player Chris Rix on December 14-15 brought more than their cleats and their grit to the field. They also each delivered a present for the children who reside at Hillsides.
This is the third year that Rix, founder of the Champion Training Academy, has run a holiday camp for boys from third grade through college, the Chris Rix Christmas Combine and Power Camp. The camp was held at Maranatha High School in Pasadena. Players paid $99 for the camp or else had the option to pay $50 with a gift donated to a children’s charity. This year, Hillsides was selected as the beneficiary of the gifts.
“This is a very creative way to combine sports training and giving, and we are so appreciate of Chris Rix and the Champion Training Academy for organizing a toy drive for Hillsides,” said Hillsides Chief Executive Officer Joseph M. Costa. “The holidays can be a difficult time for children who live at Hillsides because they are separated from their families, and these presents will help off-set any sadness and allow the children to experience the magic of the season.”
The football clinic was sponsored by Brian Claypool, owner and managing general partner of The Claypool Law Firm in Pasadena.
Rix, who played with the San Diego Chargers, leads coaching clinics throughout Southern California. He is a sportscaster for Fox Sports and has also worked for other major network affiliates, including ABC and ESPN.
