CASwell Launches CAF-0101 - Compact And Fanless Network Appliance Based On Intel Atom "Elkhart Lake"

Cost-Effective Desktop Networking System With Optional Wi-Fi For SMB And SOHO

2022/10/18 - CASwell, a leading manufacturer of innovative and high-performance SD-WAN (uCPE/vCPE) and network systems, launches the new CAF-0101, a fanless networking appliance in a compact desktop format. The CAF-0101 offers superior energy efficiency in a small form factor with its new Intel Atom processor and four Gigabit Ethernet ports plus supporting Wi-Fi expansion. The CAF-0101 works best when used for routing and other networking purposes in small to medium businesses (SMB) or small and home offices (SOHO), for example as a dedicated firewall to protect network and data against cyberattacks.

The CAF-0101 Is based on the latest Intel Atom x6000 processors ("Elkhart Lake") with two or four cores. The latest Atom series of processors using the "Tremont" microarchitecture offers 70 percent more performance in single-threaded and 50 percent more speed in multithreaded workloads than the previous generation, the widely used Atom x5- and x7-3900 "Apollo Lake" series. The production node was also improved to 10 nanometers, so the already good energy efficiency of the Intel Atom series of processors was optimized even more.

The CAF-0101 can be equipped with up to 16 GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM main memory with IBECC, uses fast eMMC storage and one SATA port for additional mass storage or SATA DOM. The system also offers optional support for Wi-Fi connectivity via Mini PCI-Express (mPCIe) module. For wired networking, the CAF-0101 provides four Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports plus one RJ45 system console port. Trusted Platform Module is supported with a TPM header onboard.

The new processors of the CAF-0101 support Intel's OpenVINO toolkit, with pre-optimized libraries for artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and computer vision acceleration. Intel's new Edge Software Hub is also supported, so customers can acquire pre-optimized, deployment-ready software packages optimized for Industrial, Retail and Vision, all of which additionally offer customizability.

Availability

The CASwell CAF-0101 is a cost-effective solution with balanced performance and upgrade options for SMB and SOHO to monitor network traffic, for bandwidth management or medical and dental imaging systems. This appliance can be configured according to customer demand and samples for customer evaluation are available now.
