RCREEE starts another round of its regional internship programCairo, Egypt –3 December, 2013- The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) hosts five more young talents from Egypt, Morocco, Sudan and Yemen. Interns joined RCREEE’s Arab Program for Sustainable Energy Youth™ (APSEY) in its second round (July 2013 – January 2014). APSEY seeks improving the young Arab young professionals’ caliber in renewable energy and energy efficiency fields and enabling jobs creation.

APSEY also enables RCREEE to review and fulfill Arab states’ sustainable energy needs and to create a more competitive job market.
”In this round, we relied on previous experience to make the internship program more interactive and diversified. Our group of young professionals gains both technical and business mix of assignments, field trips, local and international trainings”, said Noha Gamal, Program Manager, RCREEE.
In its first round which started January 2013, RCREEE hosted six interns from Egypt, Sudan, Palestine and Tunisia. APSEY alumni headed back to their home countries and now contribute to major renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives and projects. Some of them also continued to engage with RCREEE in remote assignments and project assistance.
The outcomes of the first round include:
• A monitoring and evaluation templates for the most common measures in RCREEE member states’ National Energy Efficiency Actions Plans (NEEAPs).
• Pilot study to investigate the readiness of Egyptian Solar Water Heater manufacturers for SHAMCI certification scheme in cooperation with the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) – Lund University in Sweden.
