Analytiqa: Logistics Bulletin: Friday 24th August

09-06-2007 02:57 PM CET | Logistics & Transport

Press release from: Analytiqa

This week's Bulletin focuses on interim results, M&A activity, contract wins, technology and key appointments from across the global supply chain. In Europe, Deutsche Bahn subsidiary Schenker has reported revenue of €6,777.0 million for the first half of 2007, up from €6,268.0 million in 2006. Operating profit (EBIT) at Schener reached €192.0 million, up by 10.3% from the same period of 2006, as employee numbers reached 56,499.

In Australasia, Toll believes the Transport and Logistics sectors remain the subject of ongoing consolidation on a regional and global scale. Toll expects that the drive for additional capability, scale and reach will ensure that consolidation continues to be a feature of the industry. In addition, as international supply chain management opportunities become more China centric, it believes that major logistics groups need to focus greater attention on Asian presence and capabilities.

Primary research with UK retailers by Analytiqa, released as a complimentary White Paper, identifies the environmental benefits and cost savings of a Port-based supply chain strategy and how this is already being adopted across the UK. Analytiqa's White Paper includes case studies of three organisations who have already implemented such a strategy - ASDA, BMB Group, Stiller Group. To request your complimentary copy of the White Paper, please send an email to enquiries@analytiqa.com with your request.

Toll’s take on industry dynamics in Asia

22 August - Reporting its full year results for the year to 30 Juen, 2007, Toll took the opportunity to comment on the industry dynamics that its businesses are facing across Asia

The Transport and Logistics sectors remain the subject of ongoing consolidation on a regional and global scale. Toll expects that the drive for additional capability, scale and reach will ensure that consolidation continues to be a feature of the industry.

In addition, as international supply chain management opportunities become more China centric, it believes that major logistics groups need to focus greater attention on Asian presence and capabilities.

On the domestic front, Toll believes that ongoing issues with critical transport infrastructure are reducing Australia’s opportunity to benefit from growing trade flows from both imports and exports.

Toll as a major user of infrastructure both rail and port are vitally interested in the improvement of infrastructure, and where appropriate the Company will participate directly in order to support customers and to bring greater efficiency in supply chains.
