Toward the end of the 1990s, Jhulna Goswami made her domestic cricket debut with the Bengal squad, and international debut in January 2002. She was the first woman to hold the top spot in 2008. In Goswami's career as well as Indian women's cricket, the 2017 ODI World Cup in England turned out to be a turning point. It was her fourth 50-over international competition, and her bowling strikes.
A former India captain, she is the highest wicket-taker in women's international cricket with 353 wickets in 283 matches.
The first of three One-Day Internationals against England was played on September 18 and made Goswami, 39, the oldest female cricket player to play for her country. The previous holder of the record was India's legendary batter Mithali Raj, who retired in June.
