Learning Journey at AstraZeneca -Digital Competence in Pharma, Marketing & Sales

Released today in HANSER publishing, the eBook: "Digital Competence in Pharma Marketing & Sales - Our Learning Journey at AstraZeneca" by Jana Sonntag und Milaid Stephan, AstraZeneca GmbH. This eBook is also available as a chapter in the new book "Digital Competence and Future Skills" from award-winning digital skills expert and publishing editor Dr. Philipp Ramin, CEO of the Innovation Center for Industry 4.0 (i40.de).

The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it a need for physical distancing that caused unprecedented disruption in manifold aspects of private and professional lives. Consequently, virtual and digital interactions have increasingly replaced traditional in-person contact. Healthcare systems and the healthcare industry too are affected by these changes. Keeping pace with this acceleration, actively shaping the processes, and ideally even driving them forward with innovations are key challenges for companies in the healthcare industry, and therefore of course also for AstraZeneca.

This chapter describes the Omnichannel Learning Journey of AstraZeneca by emphasizing that successful change happens when everyone involved understands the "why". Only then does the willingness develop to overcome the inner barriers against change and to adopt new methods, tools and processes. Accompanying this change process with appropriate learning opportunities geared to the needs of the learners and transparently adapting the way forward based on feedback from the learners are the highest priorities for successful and sustainable capability building.

"COVID-19 is the gamechanger for digitalization in the German Healthcare system. To cope with the "New Normal", Sales, Marketing and Medical functions need to adopt a mindset that's responsive and iterative and to embark onto a new way of working - cross-functional, data-driven and customer-centric down to the individual level." Jana Sonntag, Head of Business Excellence US Oncology AstraZeneca.

"Omnichannel is a blitz chess game for brand managers - with one match per customer. where brand managers as chess players - constantly observe and analyze one another's moves to take advantage for their own strategy, taking calculable risks and always thinking ahead." Milaid Stephan, Head of Capability Development Innovation and Business Excellence (IBEX) | Scientific Training, AstraZeneca GmbH

"In the World Health Organization (WHO) "Global strategy on digital health 2020-2025" report, the WHO determined that digital healthcare can " improve health for everyone, everywhere by accelerating the development and adoption of appropriate, accessible, affordable, scalable and sustainable person-centric digital health solutions to prevent, detect and respond to epidemics and pandemics, developing infrastructure and applications that enable countries to use health data to promote health and well-being. It also stated that "the digitalization of the health sector, digital health can improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of care". These might seem given, but the health sector is governed by many strict regulations which needed to accommodate digitalization and in doing so, competence development needed to accelerate too. In their fascinating eBook, Jana Sonntag and Milaid Stephan show how AstraZeneca's Omnichannel learning journey progressed in the wake of Coronavirus and which groundbreaking talent development programs this brought with it. We are delighted that this eBook is also a chapter in our new book "Digital Competence and Future Skills"- recently released by Hanser Publishing", Dr. Philipp Ramin, CEO and Founder of Innovation Center for Industry 4.0.
