Antennas of the spike and blade varieties are frequently employed.
NAV Antennas:
Three different types of VHF navigation antennas-the cat whisker, the twin blade, and the towel bar-are virtually invariably positioned on the vertical tail. The vertical stabiliser has a couple of rods that protrude at a 45-degree angle to form the cat whisker. However, the cat whisker antenna has poor side reception.
GPS Antennas:
The GPS signal is quite faint when it finally reaches you because GPS satellites only transmit less than five watts of electricity. As a result, the GPS antenna includes an amplifier built in to strengthen the signal for the receiver.
