A county government in Maryland doesn't want a chitlin market in their area. The government rezoned a successful chitlin market restaurant to residential and declared chitlins a "negative racial stereotype."

The Audiobook, Offal Great - A Memoir from the Queen of Chitlins, is a real-life account of an attempt to open a restaurant with a small museum in the City of Hyattsville, In Prince Georges County, Maryland, that specializes in selling cleaned chitterlings.

Shauna has been doing business in the area for a while and has always been successful, but this time she was being sabotaged by the government; they were trying to stop her from opening her restaurant. The story follows her journey as she tries to overcome obstacles and discover who is behind them.

Shauna Anderson is a restaurant owner, author, and Smithsonian Museum inductee who has been running her business for years. She loves her customers and keeps them happy by always being on top of the latest trends, but she's tired of fighting off her enemies to keep the place afloat.

While the new location was renovated, the Chitlin Market operated from a mobile food trailer. In 2007, after an ABC show used The Chitlin Market as a prop for a dangerous neighborhood, then county executive Jack B. Johnson denounced the show

"When the president in the show gets out of a car and is in front of a restaurant that advertises chitlins and pork chops in today's America, what any right-thinking American knows is we are harking back to an age-old inability of this country to celebrate the leadership and achievement of African-Americans and other diverse people in this country."

Peter Shapiro, then a county council member, said the store was used to promote ABC's "stereotype of a poor, dangerous black neighborhood." After the restaurant was complete, opened, and serving customers, Prince Georges County and the MNCPPC rezoned the restaurant to residential. The Chitlin Market now operates exclusively online.
