Adelphi Junior Anustha Shrestha Receives GEICO Achievement

Last spring, Adelphi Honors College student in the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business Anustha Shrestha ‘15 was awarded the GEICO Achievement Award, a $1,000 reward bestowed to outstanding undergraduate students in the U.S. To qualify for the program, students must be either a sophomore or junior at a four-year accredited school majoring in business, computer science, mathematics, or a related field. They must have at least a 3.0 overall GPA and have demonstrated leadership on campus or within the community.

An economics major and Honors College student, Anustha is also an international student from Nepal. Her leadership roles on campus include Business Senator in the Adelphi Student Government Association and President for International Students Society. She is a previous member of AU SAPNA, Adelphi’s Bollywood Fusion Dance Team. Anustha has held a number of jobs on campus; she is currently a student writer in the Office of Public Affairs and a learning assistant in the Learning Center. She has also worked at Adelphi’s IT telephone services. In 2012, Anustha served as Adelphi’s United Nations Youth Representative to NGO Section of the United Nations Department of Public Information. In this role, she attended briefings held by the UN and wrote for the “Adelphi and the UN” blog.

Anustha was presented the GEICO Achievement Award on August 22 at the Community Fellows Breakfast. For the past two summers, Anustha has participated in the Adelphi Community Fellows Program, an innovative, paid, summer internship program geared to address community needs and to give students experiential learning opportunities at prestigious nonprofits. She has interned at Sustainable Long Island in Farmingdale, NY and at Five Towns Community Chest in Woodmere, NY.

Of the best thing about being a student at Adelphi, Anustha says the tight-knit community of students and professors has helped her to learn, grow, and explore.

For more than 25 years, GEICO has been offering the Achievement Award to exceptional undergraduate students. The program requires applicants to submit their resume, transcript and an essay as well as a letter of recommendation.
