Apollo Bramwell Hospital

Apollo Bramwell Hospital

Apollo Bramwell Hospital, a hi-tech tertiary care hospital based in the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius is celebrating its fourth anniversary. The hospital, which opened on August 19, 2009, has since touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients and their families, both from Mauritius and abroad.
The hospital is now poised for more major developments as it prepares new projects that are set to change the medical landscape of Mauritius and the African region.
“We are very proud to be celebrating the hospital’s fourth anniversary and we are grateful to the public for putting its trust in us. Apollo Bramwell Hospital has accomplished a lot in only four years, providing advanced medical care that was not previously available in Mauritius. We now have other new projects in the pipeline that will change the way medical care is delivered in the region,” said David Gray, Deputy Chairman of the organization.
In the last four years, the JCI accredited hospital has cared for no less than 241,575 Emergency Department patients and 13, 686 international patients from countries including Madagascar, Seychelles, France, UK and Australia.
The hospital’s maternity ward has welcomed 1679 new lives into the world, while 9,237 lives were saved thanks to advanced surgery performed by the hospital’s experienced medical teams.
So far, 97,619 patients have benefitted from the hospital’s radiology imaging services, while 28,996 have undergone advanced cardiology diagnostic tests and a total of 681, 943 patients have required the hospital’s laboratory services.
Apollo Bramwell Hospital has also been a pioneer in the region for cutting-edge treatment and services. It was the first in the region to begin an ambitious stem cell programme, which successfully contributed to helping patients suffering from diabetic foot.
The hospital was also the first to launch emergency motorbikes, with three new Harley-Davidson bikeswhich were an important addition to the hospital’s emergency services given the growing number of emergency cases treated at the hospital.
Over the years, the hospital has several complex surgeries that were never before carried out in the region, include spine surgeries, kidney surgeries and heart surgery. Apollo Bramwell Hospital has also launched a revolutionary treatment for an eye disease called keratoconus, and more recently set up a fertility clinic. Its latest achievement is an orthotics and prosthetics facility which has already catered to over 120 patients in three months.

Apollo Bramwell Hospital is a 200-bed, multi-speciality hospital in Mauritius, is a joint venture between leading Mauritian business group, British American Investment Co. (Mtius) ltd, and India’s healthcare giant, Apollo Hospitals Group. Medical care will include cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, nephrology and opthalmology, neonatology and paediatrics, trauma and cosmetic surgery. Total investment in the project is estimated at over US$70 million (over Rs2billion) with employment opportunities for over 500 staff.
