MEXICO CITY - Gardere, Arena y Asociados S.C. has been recommended in six areas of practice by The Legal 500 Latin America in its 2013 directory. Noting the Firm’s cross-border reputation, the publication recognized the Mexico City office in the areas of competition and antitrust, corporate and mergers & acquisitions, real estate, tax and insurance matters.

The Gardere Corporate team received recognition both in the areas of competition and antitrust, and M&A. Partners Roberto Arena and Alejandro Ortiz are recognized for their M&A work, and Associate Marco Nájera is recognized as a leader in transactional and compliance matters.

Led by Mr. Ortiz, the cross-border Real Estate team was noted as being “highly experienced in hospitality and tourism transactions, with a growing focus on retail, manufacturing and real estate trusts.” Additionally, Partners Fernando Camarena, Charles E. Meacham and Juan M. Alcalá along with Associate Juan Vazquez were mentioned for their work in support of the real estate practice.

In the Tax category, the directory describes Gardere as “an excellent firm which always thinks creatively.” Earlier this year, Gardere’s Mexico City tax practice, led by Mr. Arena and Mr. Camarena, also earned recognition by Tax Directors Handbook.

The directory describes Gardere’s Insurance practice as being “practical and efficient” with impressive response time, information quality and “great capacity to listen and find ad-hoc solutions.” The Mexico City insurance group is led by Mr. Nájera, who is also recognized individually along with Mr. Camarena.

“As one of the first U.S. law firms to open a full-service office in Mexico City back in 1992, it is an honor to be consistently recognized among the top law firms in Latin America by The Legal 500,” says Gardere Chair Holland N. O’Neil. “We strive to deliver exceptional service to our clients, and this recognition for our attorneys is an acknowledgement that we are achieving that goal.”

The Legal 500 directory is published by LegalEase, a worldwide provider of quality legal market information. The law firm compiles its directory based largely on peer recommendations and commercial client interviews.
