FleetBoard at Busworld: telematics solutions for the efficient management of buses

09-11-2013 01:17 PM CET | Logistics & Transport

Press release from: Daimler FleetBoard GmbH

• Reduction in fuel and communication costs
• Effective working for drivers and bus operators
• Expanded operational analysis: detailed information and transparency regarding driving styles

Kortrijk - At this year's Busworld in Kortrijk, Belgium, Daimler FleetBoard is presenting the new operational analysis for reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in urban, inter-urban and touring driving conditions. During the trade fair, which runs from 18 to 23 October, FleetBoard will also be presenting its modular range of bus-specific telematics solutions and other new products in hall 5 at stand 501 with EvoBus/Daimler Buses.
Many bus fleet operators are already improving the cost-effectiveness of their vehicles with the help of FleetBoard's telematics-based internet services, and substantially improving the efficiency of their fleet. The telematics system is available ex works for fully equipped Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses, and can easily be retrofitted into other manufacturers' buses. Driving and vehicle data are recorded via a standardised FMS interface on the bus and

transmitted to a central server by GPRS. This is handled by the FleetBoard TiiRec end device built in to the vehicle. Registered users can securely access the FleetBoard Cockpit containing all data and analyses via the internet.
FleetBoard's operational analysis and driving style assessment provides a solid foundation for reducing fuel consumption and wear-and-tear. Analyses of driving and braking patterns, excessive engine speeds and average speed help the driver find an economical driving style. There are other benefits to the new, expanded operational analysis: Looking at the FleetBoard driving grade and operational severity allows an objective analysis of the driver's performance. In addition to an improved interface, driving styles can now be compared between different manufacturers. Speed and brake ratings, as well as map-based driving, are depicted visually.
Tour operator Avanti uses FleetBoard's services for its global tours that take guests as far afield as East Asia. FleetBoard supports the journeys, and allows the position of buses to be tracked at any time using GPS positioning. "We have made sustainable travelling our goal, and would like our travel programmes to be environmentally friendly and cost-effective. FleetBoard helps us achieve these aims" reports Hans-Peter Christoph.
Using a digital road map, bus operators have constant access to information regarding the current locations of their vehicles or the exact path taken by a particular vehicle. Users can choose between a map view, satellite view or a combination of the two.
When out and about, bus operators benefit from the FleetBoard App for buses, which can be downloaded from the AppStore free of charge for the iPhone or iPad. The App gives users mobile access to their fleets in order to be able to optimise routes or make contact with vehicles and drivers anywhere and at any time.
