Experienced buyers may understand that all online ordering platforms have similar parameter options.

From a certain point of view, it is a simple digital model established in advance for the PCB to be produced under the process capability of the foundry.

In this way, the foundry can basically produce all the orders received.

As for the process capability of the foundry (as shown in the figure below), in short, it is a PCB foundry. In theory, the range of products that can be produced.

However, there are still some things about the process capabilities of PCB foundries that are not well known by customers.

First, the process capability is only the theoretical production capacity of the PCB foundry, and there is a gap between the theory and the fact.

Customers who have actually placed orders for PCB multilayer boards will know that some process capabilities are written and can be done. When the actual order is placed, the ordering platform may reply: Sorry, beyond the scope of ability, apply for a refund for you Please forgive me~

And some obviously exceed the process capability, or the process capability is not described. After placing the order in the remarks, the ordering platform gave a surprising reply: Hello! After review, our company can produce the order, please pay normally~

Second, if the PCB is designed based on the process capability of the foundry, it is best to avoid the upper and lower limits of the process capability for design.

Because, in fact, any foundry, with the changes of equipment, potions, personnel and other factors, its process capability fluctuates in a small range (similar to the SPC of potions). Designs that are close to the upper and lower limits of the factory's process capability, whether it is normal production or quality control, are an extreme challenge for the factory, and it is very easy to cause some intractable problems.

In this way, it not only affects the delivery time, but also affects the quality.

Therefore, in general, if the limit production capacity of the line width and line spacing of the PCB foundry is 3/3 mil, then the minimum line width and line spacing of the design data should be designed to be 4~5 mil, or larger.

Third, the process capability announced by the PCB foundry reflects its own key and infrequently changed manufacturing capabilities, not all.

Because each PCB foundry will have its own unique equipment mix, thus creating a process capability with industry commonality and individual differences. In terms of details, not only will each PCB foundry be different, but each PCB foundry itself is actually undergoing constant changes (for example, when a certain equipment is aging and expires, it is scrapped; when a new equipment arrives, installation debugging).

Therefore, if you are attentive and experienced in ordering PCB multi-layer boards, you will find that the process capability table of each PCB foundry is similar in format, but the details will be different.
