Biochemical Factors in Alzheimer’s Disease: Prevention and Treatments
Dr. William Shaw, Ph.D., will be presenting on Biochemical Factors in Alzheimer’s Disease: Prevention and Treatments at the 4th Annual Integrative Medicine for Mental Health Conference in Chicago, IL, September 20-22, 2013.Approximately 50% of the population over age 85 has Alzheimer’s disease. Risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease include increasing age, the presence of apolipoproteinE-epsilon allele, familial aggregation of cases, and Down’s syndrome. Exposures to toxic chemicals at early ages are expected to be the result of increasing number of adults diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Alternative treatments to reduce symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease will be discussed as well as learn about secrets to avoiding Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Shaw will also discuss the role that metal toxicity plays in the development of Alzheimer’s disease, the major known risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease, and how such risks can be reduced. Additionally, attendees will learn the most effective laboratory tests for the evaluation of risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. William Shaw received his Ph.D. in biochemistry and human physiology from the Medical University of South Carolina and is board certified in clinical chemistry and toxicology. Dr. Shaw has supervised large endocrinology, nutritional biochemistry, toxicology, and immunology departments in positions at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Smith Kline Laboratories.
