Landmark Study Finally Answers The Biggest Questions In Nutrition
Whanganui, New Zealand, July 18th, 2022 - In May 2022, a landmark study, that answers one of the biggest questions in nutrition, was finally published.This study finally answers the big questions: Can diet alone help someone with a history of heart disease and which diet is better; is it a Low-fat diet or the Mediterranean diet?
The study* recruited over 1000 subjects and randomly assigned them to one of two intervention diets. These are diets that doctors recommend to their patients when diagnosed with heart disease. The subjects were then closely followed for seven years to determine if there was any difference in health outcomes between the two diets.

Why were these two diets chosen?
The Low-fat and Mediterranean diets have been shown to benefit patients with underlying and stable heart disease. Still, no one really knew if one diet was better or if there were any other significant differences between them?
After seven years, the two diets were the same in several important areas;
1. No difference in body weight between the diets
2. No difference in blood cholesterol levels
3. No difference in ApoB levels (a superior marker of heart disease than LDL cholesterol)
4. No difference in Blood Glucose Levels
5. No difference in blood triglyceride levels
However, the major result of this study was that the Mediterranean diet reduced the risk of future cardiac events, such as heart attack and stroke, by 27% compared to the Low-fat diet. The study went into an even more detailed analysis and showed that this difference was even more significant for those who followed the Mediterranean diet protocol the closest. In that, the smaller subset of subjects, the reduction in risk of future cardiac events was 40% when compared to the Low-fat diet.
The question now raises is that if all the traditional markers of heart disease were the same after seven years, why was there such a huge difference in the future cardiac events between the two diets? What could explain it?
To understand this, one must look to an earlier study that was published based on this same research and study population. (It is common for a research team to publish several smaller studies based around one major long-term research program.) In 2020, the same research team published a study** investigating the role of inflammation in this group of subjects.
What the researchers found in 2020 is that levels of C-Reactive Protein (a marker for inflammation in the body) were significantly reduced in those subjects taking the Mediterranean diet, while C-Reactive Protein was slightly elevated in those on the Low-fat Diet. This finding suggests that the Mediterranean diet has a significant anti-inflammatory effect on the body, which leads several experts to speculate that the reduced inflammation within the body contributed to the outstanding performance of the Mediterranean diet at reducing the risk of future heart events.

These 18 forms of omega-3 fatty acids come together synergistically to significantly reduce inflammation by working across several inflammatory pathways at once. In addition, we add a patent-pending botanical blend called UAF1000+, which exerts a novel Double-A action (Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory), making this product 53 times more anti-inflammatory than just New Zealand Green-Lipped Mussel oil alone.
