Innovative Carbon Offsets Benefit Public Sector Clients
Clean Skies for Communities™ offset 154,000 pounds of C02 emissions forEnergize 2013 Summit and through a national Crowdfunding Campaign
SALT LAKE CITY, UT, August 9, 2013 – Environmental Certificate Exchange’s Clean Skies for Communities™ environmental attributes entered the green conference market by offsetting energy for participants of the Energize 2013 Sustainable Energy Summit. Clean Skies™ products were also featured in a national crowdfunding campaign using the RocketHub platform in June. Both programs position Clean Skies carbon offsets and certificates as the only energy product available in the energy market that exclusively supports schools and other public sector markets.
At the Energize 2013 Sustainable Energy Summit Clean Skies Carbon Offsets™ and Clean Skies Certificates™ balanced 154,000 pounds of CO2 emissions from the event’s attendee travel, meal preparation, paper use, heating of hotel space, and hot water. The 2013 vintage of Clean Skies Carbon Offsets are unique because they provide upfront funding for clean energy and carbon avoidance projects for K-12 schools.
Clean Skies for Communities differs from other green power programs because vintages are created from various Public Sector clean energy projects, and sales of its offset products directly benefit schools, fire departments, governments, police departments, and other Public Sector clients. Unlike PacifiCorp’s Blue Sky program, which has come under fire from HEAL Utah as a “thin layer of green frosting on a very dirty cake” (see truebluesky.org), Clean Skies environmental products are generated from 100% clean energy projects and help subsidize the purchase of additional clean energy equipment.
“Air pollution, climate change, our school systems and our governments are critical issues of our time,” said L. Brent Ivie, CEO of Environmental Certificate Exchange (ECX). “We believe that businesses and individuals have the ability—and the desire—to make a real difference by supporting Clean Skies for Communities—to create clean energy and reduce pollution levels in the community,” he added.
In June, ECX launched a national crowdfunding campaign through RocketHub. The campaign drew support from Steven Grossman, Executive Director and CEO of JAA, “At the Jacksonville Aviation Authority it’s all about giving back to the community through jobs and involvement in community and educational activities. Clean Skies clearly demonstrates this same commitment to giving back,” he said.
Some of the other supporters of Clean Skies include Darrin Kopala, CEO of Ingenium Aerospace out of Arlington Heights, IL; from Centennial, CO, Theodore Hoster, CEO of Approach Odor Eliminator; from Tulsa, OK, Jerry Farrar, VP and Director of Aviation at CH2M Hill; Linda Summers, CEO of Linda Summers Ltd Jewelry & Artifacts from Plano, TX; Dr. Jonathan Smith, Lifestyle Physician and CEO of Healthier is Wealthier and Associates, San Diego, CA, Robyn Thomas also of San Diego, and Joe Testa of San Antonio, TX.
Executive Director of the Salt Lake Energy Commercialization Center (ECC), Robert Bell, a Clean Skies funding supporter said, “We want to take action here, supporting local clean energy projects by participating in the Clean Skies for Education program to make a positive impact on the ecology of our community.” Local businesses and individuals that offset their carbon footprint with Clean Skies Carbon Offsets address the social, economic, and environmental aspects of sustainability. “It’s more than a carbon offset - it’s a win for our schools, our community, our economy, and our environment,” Bell added.
Clean Skies’ products provide consumers and businesses with the opportunity to reduce the environmental impact of their everyday energy use through carbon offsets and renewable energy credits while supporting education and other public sector areas. Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate.
“Clean Skies is dedicated to ensuring a better quality of life and a greener and cleaner environment for our residents and future generations. Neutralizing our greenhouse gas emissions through carbon offsets and investing in school-based clean energy projects is something we can all support,” said Jacqueline Zielenski, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of ECX. “By ‘going green’ they will help to fund clean energy installations and environmental education for community schools,” adds Ivie.
