Radolfzell, 27.05.13 - The organization team of the 4th DDI workshop reports that more than 70 international drug development experts and representatives from health authorities take part at the scientific meeting ”DDI 2013 – 4th International Workshop on Regulatory Requirements and Current Scientific Aspects on the Preclinical and Clinical Investigation of Drug-Drug Interactions” at Marbach Castle, Lake Constance.

On May 26th the fourth DDI Workshop started with come together activities, a come together dinner, and a welcoming speech by the Parliamentary State Secretary Dr. Helge Braun, Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Berlin, Germany.

Today and tomorrow four scientific sessions are focused on drug interactions involving therapeutic biologics and anti-infective agents, clinical, epidemiological and pharmacovigilance aspects of DDIs, novel approaches to improve the prediction of DDIs, and DDIs in special populations.

Robert Hermann, member of the organization team, stated: “At the fourth DDI Workshop we are pleased to present four distinguished key note speakers, Bernd Meibohm from the University of Tennessee, Eva Gil Berglund from the Swedish authority MPA, Keith A. Rodvold from the University of Illinois, and David J. Greenblatt from the Tufts University, Boston. Based on that, we expect a very interesting discussion of the EMA guideline as well as discussions of new scientific trends to investigate drug-drug interactions of new medicines. In the fourth year of organizing this scientific workshop we recognize that the DDI Workshop has now a core team of speakers and participants who are intrigued to come together every year at the Constance Lake for scientific exchange and networking in the important field of drug-drug interactions.”

The organizers are pleased that distinguished speakers from the USA (Bernd Meibohm, Keith A. Rodvold, David J. Greenblatt, Sean Hennessy, Lisa von Moltke), UK (David J Back, Terry Shepard), Switzerland (Stefan Russmann) and Germany (Gerd Mikus) are actively contributing to the fourth DDI Workshop.

The DDI Workshop offers a unique opportunity for scientific exchange and networking across company and organizational borders, and to learn about the current state-of-the-art in the investigation of DDIs. Based on the detailed feedback received from the expert audience on additional areas of interest requiring future consideration, the structure and content of the DDI Workshop 2013 were designed.
