Center for Compassionate Leadership

NEW YORK, NY - April 20, 2021 - The Center for Compassionate Leadership today announced its next free Global Compassion Community Gathering to take place virtually on May 19 at 12 PM ET (www.centerforcompassionateleadership.org/global-compassion-gathering-may-19). The event will feature a close examination of the science behind the impact of serving others in order to build a more compassionate world. The guest speaker is Stephen Trzeciak, MD, MPH, physician scientist, professor and chair of medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, and chief of medicine at Cooper University Health Care. Dr. Trzeciak is a practicing intensivist and clinical researcher published more than 120 times. His upcoming book is "Wonder Drug: 7 Scientifically Proven Ways That Serving Others Is the Best Medicine for Yourself" (www.us.macmillan.com/books/9781250809049/wonderdrug).

Monica Worline, author of Awakening Compassion at Work and researcher with the Stanford University Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (www.ccare.stanford.edu), is co-hosting the gathering with Laura Berland, founder of the Center for Compassionate Leadership (www.centerforcompassionateleadership.org) and a visionary catalyst in the emerging field. Laura is available for interviews about the event and timely topics of compassionate leadership. Participants can find more information about the free 60-minute event and register HERE: www.centerforcompassionateleadership.org/global-compassion-gathering-may-19. The gathering will provide a safe environment for participants to connect and engage in intimate breakout rooms following Dr. Trzeciak's remarks - which compassion advocates cite as their favorite aspect of these events.

"The call to compassionate action is made more urgent by the backdrop of war in Ukraine, ongoing conflicts around the globe, climate change, and rampant social injustice. We are fortunate to gather from all corners of the world to share our intentions for bringing compassion at this critical time," said Laura Berland. "It is not just the external systems that require compassionate care; it is each and every one of us who can benefit from the inner work of self-compassion to rest, restore, and return to wholeness."

Laura Berland, and the Center's COO, Evan Harrel, have been featured in outlets like Psychology Today, Forbes, NPR, and other media (www.centerforcompassionateleadership.org/in-the-news). They spoke at the World Health Organization's/Task Force for Global Health's Global Health Compassion Rounds and executed a workshop for the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. They have also co-authored published research (www.ajtmh.org/view/journals/tpmd/105/6/article-p1450.xml) on the importance of compassion in global health.
