Urgent fundraising campaign launched - Ukraine Trauma First Aid Project
An urgent fundraising campaign has been launched, aimed at getting trauma equipment and specialist medical training to Ukraine. The Ukraine Trauma First Aid Project aims to provide specialist, life-saving equipment and medical training at the Polish / Ukraine border.
The goal is to buy pre-hospital trauma care equipment for Ukrainian fighters, but also to help treat civilians who have been caught up in the devastation.
At the same time, they want to deliver trauma medical training, equipping people with the skills they need to save lives.
The campaign, which was launched at the beginning of March, has already exceeded £6,000 - with more donations to follow - but they urgently need more funds.
Fighters and civilians will be facing gunshot and shrapnel wounds, blast wounds, burns and other trauma-induced injuries. The specialist equipment and training will help people deal with catastrophic bleeds, airway management, burns, severe breaks, spinal damage and exposure to the elements.
Fluid Mind, the organisation behind the campaign, brings together a highly skilled team of expert medics, providing bespoke hostile environment and combat medical training across the globe.
Tim Simpson, Director at Fluid Mind, said: "We have a small window of opportunity to provide some aid and training on the Polish / Ukraine border.
"There is a short period of time once someone has received a life-threatening injury, known as the 'golden hour'. This is the period immediately after a traumatic injury has been sustained, during which there is the highest likelihood that prompt medical and surgical treatment will save life.
"The Ukraine Combat Medical Project aims to provide the best possible equipment available, and equip people with the effective trauma medical training.
"We would like to encourage people to donate to this cause, enabling us to quickly and effectively support the people of Ukraine.
"We would like to thank everyone who has donated to the campaign so far - the generosity has been humbling."
Supporters so far include a group of Welsh sheep farmers, who donated £2,000 to the campaign.

About the Ukraine Trauma First Aid Project
The Ukraine Trauma First Aid Project aims to get specialist, life-saving equipment and medical training to people who need it near the Ukraine border. Our goal is to raise as much money as possible in order to buy pre-hospital trauma care equipment and to train civilians with the necessary skills and knowledge to help save lives. Through addressing the lack of decent pre-hospital trauma skills we hope to reduce the gap between point of injury and definitive medical care. This is a not-for-profit project. All funds raised will go directly to the ongoing procurement of medical equipment and provision of training to the people of Ukraine. www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/ukraine-trauma-first-aid-project
