UNC Cleantech Summit to Feature Global Speakers; Position Region as Economic Development Leader in Clean Energy Transition

Chapel Hill, NC, March 7, 2022 - The 8th annual UNC Cleantech Summit will take place in person at the Friday Conference Center in Chapel Hill on March 29-30. The themed event, "Transitioning to a Low Carbon Economy" is open to students from all universities, industry professionals, K-12 teachers and academia for engagement about the global energy transition and move towards cleaner, energy independence.

The Summit is co-hosted by the Center for Sustainable Enterprise at the Kenan-Flagler Business School and the UNC Institute for the Environment.

"This two-day event explores the economic development benefits of clean energy for our region, the Southeast and the world," said Dr. Greg Gangi, Associate Director for Clean Technology and Innovation at the UNC Institute for the Environment and founder of the Cleantech Summit event. "The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has demonstrated the world's dependence on Russian oil and gas," said Gangi. "European speakers will be here in North Carolina sharing how they are using clean energy to transition to a low carbon economy, and break their dependency on Russian resources."

In addition to in-person programming, registered attendees will have onsite experiences that include riding seated electric devices from Wheels and touring an electric van from Arrival Automotive. In addition, there will be an industry networking event on March 29 in partnership with Women in Clean Energy from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. And a virtual career fair will be held on March 31.
